While power has been restored for the most part, BOSAI Company Secretary, Norman McLean stated yesterday that Linden residents will still have to contend with some power disruptions until the interlocking circuit is fully functional.
McLean told Stabroek News that “at least one Caterpillar (engine) has problems and has been cutting out so they have been working on it”. He continued that BOSAI did release a statement early yesterday which noted that some instability would continue throughout the day.
He said that the bulk of the issue was resolved since 2:00 am yesterday. Residents have noted that while power has been restored it has remained unstable with frequent disturbances.
Region 10 Chairman Sharma Solomon noted that BOSAI was not in contact with the region yesterday and that the only word from the company was to inform residents of the initial issue.
Solomon stated that after last year’s power disturbances, a committee was set up inclusive of all stakeholders to allow for power rationing in such circumstances. He stated that Linden Electricity Incorporated was willing to work alongside the committee, which would have needed BOSAI’s support, to ensure that electricity rationing was done.
The Region 10 Chairman stated that BOSAI was resistant to the committee, which he noted was set up so the Linden Hospital Complex could benefit from consistent electricity during times of fluctuation. Solomon stated that power outages lasting over five hours have consequences at the hospital. He noted that access to running water was disrupted and that if there was a functioning committee a mandate would have been in place to relieve stress on residents.
