The Middleton Street trench has not been cleaned for many years

Dear Editor,

Bel Air Park has become a reservoir for floodwaters, more than ten inches of it every time the rain falls.  It matters not whether it is one inch or four inches of rainfall. And this is not because of garbage dumping by its citizens or clogged drains.  It is because the main drainage trench, the Middleton Street trench, has not been cleaned for many, many years. Anyone can walk over the grass and stuff in this drainage trench.

So in protest, the footbridge across the trench collapsed about three years ago leaving the floodwaters to struggle through the luscious greenery, then over the fallen bridge to wend their way slowly, slowly to the Lamaha Street canal.

So who will bell which cat?  Who is responsible for the cleaning of this trench which runs through Kitty and Campbellville?  They have work to do.  Please check with the Doppler and get it done before the next downpour.

Yours faithfully,
Hema Persaud
