The Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) has shelved its plans to host the 31st edition of the Guyana Fight Night Pro Am card on January 26 citing lack of sponsorship.
According to matchmaker of the GBBC, Eon Jardine, the event which was scheduled to be held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall had to be cancelled “because we had a short time to put together the card and we didn’t have sufficient funding.”
Jardine however stated that boxing fans can look forward to a mega event dubbed ‘Jamaican Invasion’ on February 22.
Negotiations are still in the pipeline “but the proposed card will feature four Jamaicans including Sakima Mullings”, said Jardine.
Mullings, the former CABOFE welterweight champion will either take on Mark Austin or current CABOFE welterweight title holder, Simeon ‘Candy Man’ Hardy.
Jardine also intimated that Jamaicans, Tsetsi Davis (light middleweight), flyweight, Rudolph Hedge and super middleweight Kemahl Russell will perhaps match gloves with locals, Gladwin Dorway, Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques and Romeo Norville respectively.
The January 26 card was scheduled to be headlined by newly crowned national super middleweight champion, Derrick ‘Lights Out’ Richmond 3(3)-1-1 and Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman 47(37)-12(2)-0.
