A man, who told a city magistrate that he sells weed for a living, was remanded to prison on Wednesday after being charged with sticking up a doctor on the Agricola Public Road.
It was the police’s case that on December 28, 2013, at Agricola Public Road, Kacay Da Silva, 30, of 105 Caesar Street, Agricola and a cohort were in a minibus along with Dr. Baldeo Singh and Michelle Nurse. Da Silva and his accomplice, according to Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, were in the back seat of the bus. The bus stopped to put off Da Silva
and his accomplice at Agricola, when Dr. Singh and Nurse came out of the bus.
Jones said it was then that Da Silva and the other person allegedly pulled out hand guns, and pointed them to the victims.
Da Silva allegedly pointed his gun to Nurse and snatched her shoulder bag, valued $3,500, stole two BlackBerry cellphones, valued at $70,000, an Android phone valued$140,00, US$71 (GYD$14200), and $159,000.
He vehemently refuted those allegations. From Dr. Singh, Da Silva’s partner allegedly stole a BlackBerry Curve valued $30,000, a wallet valued $8,000 along with $20,000. Additionally, Da Silva and his accomplice allegedly lashed both victims with the guns and made good their escape. An alarm was raised that resulted in Da Silva’s apprehension, the court heard.
When Magistrate Ann McLennan asked Da Silva what he does for a living, he told her that he sells weed. He was shortly after remanded to prison and his case adjourned until January 30, 2014, when it will be recalled at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
