Dear Editor,
Firstly I must commend the President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) for affording the football fraternity some level of insight into the selection process of the technical director, head coach and players for preparation for national duty.
In two separate releases, references were made to the Technical Committee of the GFF, and in the most recent, names were mentioned, to wit: Ivan Persaud (Chairman), Wayne Dover, Lyndon France, Denzil Thompson, Brian Joseph and Sampson Gilbert. My first question is why Mr Collie Hercules, Vice-President of the GFF, and Mr Joseph Wilson are not a part of this body. By any criteria ‒ rational of course ‒ both Mr Hercules and Mr Wilson should be included. They are by far the two most knowledgeable and experienced coaches locally.
Mr Hercules is an approved FA ‘B’ licensed coach, so is Mr Wilson. Collie Hercules has played at the highest level both internationally and on pro-league football in Colombia, Barbados and T&T, where he was also a player/coach and subsequently head coach.
Mr Wilson is one of the two individuals qualified as a coaching instructor by FIFA. Their knowledge and expertise can only benefit Guyana’s football.
Secondly, of the five named members of this elite panel, three have been officially nominated for the vacant head coach position selected by this said committee, and according to the ‘ghetto-internet’ Mr Persaud is interested in both the technical director and head coaching positions.
Are we heading in the right direction, or are more self-serving interests being displayed?
Yours faithfully,
Bilaal Eusi Nantambu
