Relatives of the man whose body was discovered at Dochfour, East Coast Demerara around 12:30 am on Friday, came forward last evening and identified the man as Saresh Gobardhan.
Additional details are not yet known.
According to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, a resident living in the Dochfour area said that around 11:15 pm on Thursday, he was awakened by noise and when he looked out, he saw two men arguing on the roadway.
It was further stated that shortly after the argument, one of the men was lashed and subsequently fell to the ground. Persaud also said that the deceased smelt of alcohol.
When Stabroek News visited the area yesterday, some residents said they were not knowledgeable of the body being found until police officers turned up at their homes to question them.
Others said they saw lots of police officers at the spot where they were told the body was found, but they did not think anything at the time because that area ever so often has police officers. They said that officers normally set up road blocks there.
Investigations are continuing.
