Former beauty queen Carolan Lynch who is wanted for the murder of her husband today turned herself over to the police after being on the run for more than three years and according to one of her lawyers she will be appearing in court tomorrow morning.
Attorney at law Peter Hugh when contacted confirmed that he took his client to the Brickdam Police Station this morning. Stabroek News understands that after surrendering, the mother of one was taken to CID Headquarters, Eve Leary where she was questioned.
Also representing Lynch is attorney at law Latchmie Rahamat.
Lynch will return to court charged with murdering her Swiss House Cambio dealer husband, Farouk Razac in 2008.
In a statement to the media which was released on Monday night, she maintained her innocence claiming that she faced a framed up murder charge.
“I am determined to clear my name. I am determined to ensure that my daughter grows up knowing that her mom is innocent and is being victimized, wrongfully accused and targeted”, the former beauty queen said adding that people need to know that she is being treated unjustly and unfairly. She stressed the fact that the court record of the first preliminary inquiry stated that there was “absolutely no evidence” against her.
“My biggest fear is that these vindictive and malicious people who are out to get me will stop at nothing and may even be willing fabricate things now, some seven (7) years later to see me go to jail for a crime I did not commit”, she said.
Lynch in her statement pleaded for a speedy hearing so that “I can again attempt to put these false accusations behind me once and for all. I am willingly turning myself over to the Guyana Police Force and I am asking that members of the public be vigilant because I have no faith, confidence or trust that my preliminary inquiry will be expedited in an attempt to keep me locked up”.
She said that she is confident that she would be discharged again because she is innocent of the accusation. She said that she loved her husband dearly and that the only regret that she has in turning herself in is that she would be away from her daughter for an undetermined period of time.
Lynch was first charged in May 2007 after Razac was found dead on the floor of their Eping Avenue, Bel Air home. Following a preliminary inquiry then Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys in late December 2007, had ruled that no prima facie case was made against her and the matter was subsequently discharged.
Shortly after the case had ended police arrested her with a view of re-charging. She was however released a few days later after her lawyers moved to the High Court.
In October 2010, police arrested Lynch and filed a fresh murder charge against her. The following month, the then Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry issued a warrant for her arrest after being told by the police that Lynch had been formally served notice of the charge but had not appeared.
When the matter was called for the third time on November 10, 2010 at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court she was still absent and so the charge could not be read. In the months after, she still did not appear in court and adjournment after adjournment was given.
There was no word on her whereabouts until September last year when reports surfaced that she had been working for a local tour operator unbeknownst to police. Attempts had been made by the police to apprehend her but to no avail. Shortly after, police issued a wanted bulletin for her arrest.
In May, Razac was found dead on the floor of his Eping Avenue, Bel Air home. There was evidence that he had bled through his nose and mouth, and his hands were at his neck. A television set, which was usually at the foot of the bed, was found on the floor. An autopsy later confirmed that he had been strangled.
