A major Islamic conference will be held at the Guyana International Conference Centre from February 9-12, 2014.
A release from the Guyana Tourism Authority said that the Islamic Organisation for Latin and the Caribbean (OIPALC), an arm of the Islamic Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), is partnering with the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), to host the conference which will be attended by the Director General of ISESCO, Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, along with the leaders of 35 Latin American and Caribbean Islamic organisations, and officials from the Islamic Development Bank and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs of Kuwait.
The theme of the conference will be “Promote the initiative of the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in dialogue between different faiths and cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean.” The objectives will be to present Islamic culture and its role of improving the correct understanding of Islam; and to open dialogue between other cultures and religions for peaceful co-existence. President Donald Ramotar, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, ministers of government, members of the diplomatic corps and leaders of local Islamic organisations, all Imams, as well as representatives of different faith-based organisations have been invited to the opening ceremony on February 9.
The ISESCO is a specialised institution of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to strengthen cooperation among member states in the fields of education, science and culture; and is headquartered in Rabat, Morocco.
