Dear Editor,
I am profoundly grateful to you for publishing a letter sent by me. It appeared in your Thursday January 9 issue, captioned ‘There should be value for money from the clean-up groups of East La Penitence funded by the government.’
Please be informed that the letter generated much interest and abundant energy from one of the groups therein mentioned. They invited me to a gathering in order to obtain an explanation for my views expressed in the newspaper. It was such a wonderful opportunity – most valuable! The information shared was solemn and heartfelt. Among their greatest concerns was the aspect of funding. About two persons explored the view that the group received no financing from any government agency. They alleged that any suggestions given to me, by anyone, of any ministry of the government providing financial assistance to them, were incorrect. For this I offered my deepest apologies for any inconvenience caused. I do hope they accept.
Now for the better part. During our dialogue reliable testimonies were given of many acts of pure love. Let us take a look at just two magnificent contributions. One good gentleman stands the cost of clearing the garbage in a section commonly known as the ‘dump.’ It was to a tune of thirty thousand dollars. All his money ‒ what a selfless act! To him I humbly apologise if my letter offended. Next, is the young woman who graciously designed and printed the invitations to inform the community about the many development meetings. She also bore the cost. What a glorious act for emulation. To her I say, keep the good work up. Guyana would be richly blessed by many more persons offering community services like her. Kindly embrace my humblest apologies for any annoyance caused.
There were many words said of which time and space are limiting factors. Notwithstanding, one is compelled to acknowledge the unity displayed. Here are maturity and youth fired up for the benefit of all the residents of East La Penitence Housing Scheme, Georgetown.
In closing, I wish to cheerfully congratulate the group and its members individually as an example of high moral standing. On behalf of the rest of us citizens, I say a gargantum. “Thank you.”
Much respect
Yours faithfully,
Charles L Solomon
