A Jamaican woman was early yesterday morning found dead in a city guest house and investigators say that the man she checked in with has suddenly disappeared.
The dead woman, identified as 37-year-old Anesta Gardner, was found around 1 am in a room at NY Car Wash and Guest House located at the corners of Princes and Camp streets.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, when contacted, said that the woman checked into the guest house several days ago with a man. The man, this newspaper later learnt, is also a Jamaican national. The owner of the property, he said, had become suspicious and contacted the police.
Persaud said that when ranks forced open the door, they found the woman’s lifeless body. According to Persaud, while no marks of violence were found on the body, it is suspicious that the man has disappeared. A post-mortem examination is expected to shed light on the woman’s demise, while efforts are being made to find the man.
A senior police official told this newspaper that based on the reports the man left the woman and was not seen again. The official said that suspicions were aroused after there was no sighting of the woman and all efforts to contact her failed. The official said that based on immigration records, the woman arrived legally in Guyana. It is unclear exactly when she checked in.
Meanwhile, when Stabroek News visited the guest house, the reporter was directed to a man standing nearby who was identified as the owner. When approached, the man declined to release information, stating that the police at the Alberttown Police Station should be contacted.
Persons working at the location said that when they arrived for work all they were told is that one of the guests was discovered dead. No information was given as to the circumstances surrounding her death, they said, while adding that all they knew was that she was a Jamaican national.
Gardener’s body is currently at the Georgetown Hospital Morgue.
