Dear Editor,
I am happy that the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Clement Rohee is taking steps to keep animals off the road. But I am wondering if the stray-catchers were trained in how to conduct their job.
Around 5 pm on Sunday, January 12, my grandson was holding a red flag while two of my cows were crossing the road at Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice. Just then a group of stray-catchers who were passing on foot came up and took the cows to the Fort Wellington Police Station.
After I learnt this was happening, I came out and tried to tell them that they could not do that because the child was holding the flag, but they did not listen. I followed them to the station and noticed that they passed animals along the road in other areas but they did not bother to take them.
Editor, the hurtful part is that I am a widow and I am struggling with my life, and I had to borrow $16,000 to pay to get the two cows released. It is very hard now for me to find that money to repay my debt.
I pleaded with the stray-catchers and the police but they told me they could not do anything because it was the order of Minister Rohee.
Yours faithfully,
Rajkumarie Kabul
