Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Christopher Matthias said yesterday that the GFF Congress made no decisions against the clubs of the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) and as such the three competing clubs are still eligible to continue participating in the GFF Premier League.
Speaking via telephone during an exclusive interview, Matthias stated: “We are into football development in Guyana which in being specific, is the nine associations and its affiliates of which includes Linden.
“The GFF Congress in supporting the development of football in Linden, made no decision as regards to the clubs in Linden,” added Matthias.
Questioned what would be the outcome if the three clubs, Silver Shattas, Winners Connection and Milerock, decide not to continue competing in the event, Matthias said: “If they were to withdraw, they will basically not be eligible to play in next year’s edition. They will also not be eligible for national and/or international duties.”
According to GFF boss: “We would continue to have a relationship. If the clubs do not desire to continue to have a relationship with the GFF, we will so acquiesce to their request. What we will hope is that is not the approach they will take.”
He further stated: “It is hoped that the clubs would allow good judgment to prevail, acquainting themselves with the truth. If they choose not play, the points will be awarded to the respective teams.
“There is a reason why it is called the discipline of football. That’s why football rules on as well as off the field of play,” added Matthias. On a lighter note, He declared “United States of America based technical director Mark Rodrigues will be meeting with all football coaches at the GFF headquarters this Monday.”
