The New Amsterdam Mayor and Town Council, on Wednesday awarded a $3M+ contract to Errol Angel Constructions for rehabilitation road works.
The works are expected to be carried out in the Bermine Housing Scheme and Mayor and Town Council Housing Scheme at a cost of $1.9M and $1.2M, respectively, Town Clerk Sharron Alexander said.
In brief remarks, Mayor Claude Henry mentioned that works in the two housing schemes were long overdue. He stated that with the award of the contract, it is hoped that works would be completed in the estimated time and to the outlined specification.
Deputy Mayor Harold Dabydeen also stated that quality work is expected. He explained that it is necessary for the contractors to clean out potholes before they are refilled. “So when we inspect the works we must be fully satisfied,” Dabydeen said. He also made it clear that the council would ask for the work to be redone in the event that it is not satisfied.
Contractor Angel, in response, said he would be working to meet the specifications in the contract. He stated that with the amount of materials calculated in the estimate, they will be able to cover five hundred and fourteen square yards.
The rehabilitation works would begin as soon as there is fair weather.
