Troy Hope, who was beaten with an iron bar and stabbed to the neck on Monday night in what he claims is a case of mistaken identity, is presently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and is expected to be released shortly.
Speaking with Stabroek News, Hope, 48, of 98 Ogle Street, Triumph, East Coast Demerara, said that he received seven stitches to the wound on his neck and though he still has internal abdominal bleeding he isn’t in much pain and discomfort.
He said that at the time of the attack, he was ata shop at Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, around 10:30pm on Monday night, when a man came up to him and accused him of stealing his bicycle. “It was just a case of mistaken identity,” Hope said, while adding that he did not steal the man’s bicycle.
The man, who is his neighbour, reportedly attacked him with the iron bar, hitting him to the stomach and slashing him to the left side of his neck.
The father of one added that he has no idea whether his attacker has been arrested since he has not heard anything from police officers. He said that, however, he did report the matter to the police.
