Dear Editor,
The alleged sexual abuse of Colwyn Harding, a 23-year-old along with the abuse of his associates was wrong, inhumane, senseless, callous, horrendous and heart-wrenching. These acts must be condemned in the strictest terms. The rights of Mr Harding and his associates were undoubtedly violated. This story clearly demonstrates the abusive nature of the Guyana Police Force and adds to the growing public outcry. No human being should ever be treated this way. Justice needs to be served and appropriate action taken against the police involved once the evidence is in, sending a clear message that such inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.
I sincerely hope we realize the damage that has resulted from this incident and acknowledge that it should never be repeated on our soil.
Colwyn Harding and his associates, like everyone else, should have been treated with the greatest dignity and respect.
Yours faithfully,
Annie Baliram
