Popular designer Trevor Rose was this morning shot dead after a gunman opened fire on the car he was in which had stopped at the traffic light leading into Eccles, East Bank Demerara.
According to Commander of `A’ Division, Assistant Commissioner George Vyphuis, reports are that Rose was going into Eccles when the gunman opened fire on the car he was in. He said police got the first report at around 4.45 am and that details are still sketchy since investigators are still on the scene.
“Our investigators are still on the scene and we are in the process of putting information together,” the commander told Stabroek News.
Further reports indicated that the driver of the vehicle and a female who were in the car were both injured and are now patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Rose, who was at one time married to another popular designer Michelle Cole, was well known in designer circles and has won awards for his works especially during Mashramani time. In recent times he has also been promoting various events and also had a prominent role in city basketball.
He has left to mourn his mother, two sisters and several children, three of whom he shares with Cole.
The police this morning issued the following press release:
Nearly three years ago, Rose was the victim of armed robbery mere hours after launching costumes for the Banks DIH Mash Band at the Burnham Basketball Court.
The robbery occurred sometime after 9pm. Rose had said two gunmen relieved him of $2.5M, which he had in a haversack. A visibly shaken Rose had related that the unmasked men walked up to him and demanded his bag. After he refused to hand the bag over, one of the men pointed a handgun to his stomach.
Rose said he sidestepped the pointed gun and the bandits discharged three shots in his direction, before making their way to an awaiting car.
When persons working in the mash camp attempted to run after the bandits, they were also shot at. No one was injured.
