NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC – The Chris Brown Bahamas Invitational Track Meet has been cancelled this year because of ongoing preparations of the track at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium for the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) World Relays.
The 2nd Annual CBBI was originally scheduled for April 12.
However, the track at the stadium underwent repairs late last year and won’t be ready for use until early May. The inaugural IAAF World Relay Championships is set for May 24-25.
“It’s extremely disappointing, but through all things, I give God thanks and praise for everything that he has done with me so far,” said Brown. “I was told that the stadium was not going to be ready in time for my event due to the preparation for the world relays, and I accept that. I am totally disappointed for the simple fact that so much hard work has already gone into it. All of the athletes already had this event booked on their calendar for the 2014 season, and my team was doing everything that was necessary for this event to come off, even grander than last year. It’s just unfortunate that it had to come to this,” he said.
As for Brown’s meet, he said that changing the date and time wasn’t feasible due to schedules of the individual competitors and the calendar of events already set in stone by IAAF, and also, the locally based Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) in respect of club events.
