KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- Celebrated Jamaican athlete Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is to receive the prestigiousUniversity of Technology (UTech) Chancellor’s medal.
Former Prime Minister, Edward Seaga, has been asked to present the medal to Fraser-Pryce, an IAAF World Athletic Championshiptriple gold medalist last year.
The award is one of the highpoints of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) semi-annual conference at the Hilton Rose Hall and Spa in Montego Bay next week.
The high-level three-day meeting from January 30 to February 2 will attract Members of the IAUP from around the world.
The Chancellor’s medal is the highest non-academic award which may be bestowed by the university on a person or entity.
Former Prime Minister Seaga will make the presentation to Fraser-Pryce, the 2013 IAAF female Athlete of the year, at a delegates’ banquet set for January 31.
Since her heroic exploits in Moscow last summer, Fraser-Pryce has been the recipient of a number of awards including the Scotiabank/JAAA Golden Cleat Female Athlete of the Year.
The Chancellor’s Medal is said to be of equal status to an Honorary Doctorate with comparative prestige.
Previous recipients included Olympian Asafa Powell.
