A Kitty man is now behind bars after allegedly being caught with an unlicensed gun while being out on bail on armed robbery charges.
Dellon Morgan, 27, of 149 D’Andrade Street, Newtown, Kitty, was refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry when he was arraigned before her yesterday on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, on January 25, at about 10:40hrs, police ranks were on patrol duty on D’Abreu Street, Newtown, Kitty, when they observed Morgan acting suspiciously.
In his hands, Grant said, was a black plastic bag. He was stopped and the bag was searched and a Luger pistol with a magazine and four live rounds of ammunition were discovered. Morgan was then asked if he possessed a firearm licence, to which he replied in the negative. He was subsequently told of his offense and arrested, Grant said.
Listing the gravity of the charge, the fact that no special reasons had been given, and that the defendant is currently before another court on armed robbery charges, the prosecutor objected to bail. He also noted that Morgan had been granted bail by the Providence Magistrate’s Court about three months ago.
Morgan was remanded to prison until February 20 for trial when he will have his matter heard again at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
