The 2014 Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) Busta sponsored 50-overs-a-side festival is set to bowl off on February 7 with four matches across venues in the Cinderella County after the inclement weather last year forced a rescheduling.
Wakenaam will take on Bartica at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground; Leguan play East Bank Essequibo at Enterprise; South Essequibo will square off against Central Essequibo at the Imam Bacchus ground Affiance and Pomeroon will clash with North Essequibo at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground in the first round, a release from the ECB stated.
The victorious teams will then clash in the semi-finals where the respective winners will do battle in the final set for February 9. The winning and runner up side will each receive cash prizes and trophies while the best batsman, bowler and man of the match in the final will receive awards.
According to ECB president Fizul Bacchus, his board will organize more cricket at all levels this year.
He indicated that Essequibo was not short of talent, but said that they will need the support of the business community to lift the level of cricket in the county.
Bacchus expressed appreciation to Guyana Beverage Company Managing Director Robert Selman and his staff for their support over the years stating that they have been one of the main sponsors of cricket in Essequibo.
