Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Christopher Matthias said yesterday that the GFF congress was legally within its right to suspend the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) and as such, the federation will not be making any further pronouncements on the matter.
Speaking at a press conference held at the entity’s section K Campbellville office, Mathias said “The GFF congress was legally authorized to do what it did on January 17th until proven otherwise. Until we have an appeal, the GFF will not speak further on the matter.”
Matthias noted that while the UDFA has the fundamental right to appeal the decision of the congress,
the institution of football is called a discipline and that the rules must be adhered to both on and off the field of play.
“This is the first time the congress has shown such unanimity first, on the 14th December when they directed there must not be two finals on 1st January and on 17th January 2014 when they sanctioned UDFA executives for blatantly and openly disregarding their directive.”
The GFF boss added: “There are certain elements who are trying to destabilize the development that is taking place and their Nicodemus like meetings at night involve both present executives and past administrators.
“They do not wish to see structure, transparency, accountability, discipline, professionalism, sound principle, solvency nor sustainability in the GFF,” added Matthias.
“Sharma Solomon needs to be truthful to the people of Linden in particular and the nation in general and to those who are his accomplices as to the ulterior motives behind his course of conduct.
Matthias declared that the federation will attempt to fill the vacancy created by the suspension of Vice-President Collie Hercules by tomorrow.
He said that the six names currently being discussed by the present executive who are eligible to fill that void are Odinga Lumumba, Alfred King, Nigel Garraway, Jermaine Figueira, Rawle Adams and Daniel Thomas.
