Street dweller Gordon Allen will be spending the next three years in jail after being found guilty yesterday of two counts of possession of narcotics.
Magistrate Judy Latchman found Allen guilty of the possession of 17 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking, for which he was fined $25,500 in addition to the jail term, and possession of a gramme of cocaine, for which he was ordered to pay a $3,000 fine and perform community service at the Alberttown
Police Station for 14 consecutive days after completing the jail term.
It was the police’s case that Allen on December 12, at Orange Walk and Regent Street, Bourda, was found by police ranks on patrol in the area with the narcotics in his possession. He was then arrested and charged.
Allen was arraigned and remanded to prison on December 16, 2013.
At his arraignment, he told the court that he was deported from Canada and lived on the streets since then.
Magistrate Latchamn, in handing down the sentences, said she considered the mitigating factors in his favour, as well as, the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
