BK Western Tigers has signed former Alpha United and Fruta Conquerors talisman Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams in the current transfer period.
Questioned about the reasons surrounding his transfer, the prolific number-nine in an exclusive interview via telephone said “It’s all about sharing my knowledge with a different club and the experience of what I gained over the years. This will help to carry them (Western Tigers) to another level.”He continued: “I was looking down the road and all the clubs I could have chosen, but I chose to play at a high level. I still got the zest to play at a high level. I wanted to choose Fruta Conquerors but they are not in the National League.”
Asked if the Alpha management tried to convince him to stay, the former Leo Victor and Caledonia AIA forward said: “They didn’t try to convince me stay so I decided to go ahead with my future. I have no regrets about leaving, I wish them good luck because I have nothing against the team.“I spoke to the president
and he said he is going to release me. I got no regrets, Western Tigers is my club now. I hope to give them a season or two because I want to return to Suriname in the future,” declared the 34-year-old. Questioned if a return to Alpha in the future could be a possibility, Abrams said “No possible return to Alpha. Nothing personal but no return.”
According to Abrams:“Some of my team mates (Alpha) are disappointed but that’s a part of the game. When we recently watch football on the television, we saw Juan Mata leave Chelsea and move to Manchester United. It’s nothing personal it’s just part of the football and part of the society.”
Asked what will be the last club jersey he will don before his retirement, Abrams said:“The last club I would like to play for is Fruta Conqueror’s. I started at Beacons but all my glory and fame came from Fruta Conquerors. Fruta Conquerors is my club when I decide to hang up my boots, it’s where my heart is.”
He opined:“I hope in the future that clubs like Camptown, Fruta Conquerors and Pele get in the National League. We should get a 20 team league. We also got a lot of talented players and they need to get international trials.”
