Fined for damaging his neighbour’s plastic tables, an East Ruimveldt man yesterday told a city court that he was acting out of frustration at the late night gambling parties being hosted next door.
At the Georgetown Magistrates Courts, Lerone Garcia, of Lot 669 East Ruimveldt Georgetown, pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawfully and maliciously damaging the property of Lloyd Johnson, on January 14.
Prosecutor Michael Grant said Garcia, who has never had problems with the law, threw the tables on the road.
When given the chance to speak by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Garcia said that he was willing to repay the cost of the damages.
He added that his neighbours, Lloyd Johnson and his wife, purchased the plastic tables to host gambling parties, which would go on until 4 am. He complained that noise from the gamblers would disturb his rest. “The noise dem does be making does mek ah can’t sleep,” Garcia said.
Garcia further informed the court that he asked Johnson to stop the gambling but was ignored. “After I ask them to stop the gambling them tell me that they gotta make money to survive, and that I could do what I want. So, I tek all the tables and throw them on the road,” Garcia said. He was fined $20,000, which he was given a week to pay or he will be faced with two weeks in jail.
