Two teenagers were remanded yesterday after they appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman to answer two charges for robberies committed late last year.
According to the police, Lorenzo Forde, 18, of lot 4 Drysdale Street, Charlestown and a 16-year-old boy, allegedly committed the offences on December 26 and 30 on High Street, Kingston.
It is alleged that on Boxing Day, the duo, armed with a broken bottle, stole from Mervin Benjamin, a Toyota wagon valued $2 million, $8,000 and one Ice Mobile cellphone valued $10,000.
It is also alleged that on December 30, at Kingston, they stole a 212 Toyota Carina car, with licence plate number PKK 2531
valued $1,500,000 from Elijah Adams, property of Colin Stuart. Additionally, sometime before, during or after the robbery, they allegedly used violence on Adams.
Their lawyer Paul Fung-A-Fat told the court that his clients were innocent of the charges levelled against him and were just picked out in an identification parade a month ago. Fung-A-Fat requested reasonable bail.
Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth, who presented the police’s case, objected to bail, citing the prevalence of the offence in and around Georgetown.
Subsequently Magistrate Latchman remanded the 16-year-old to the juvenile centre and Forde to prison. The case was then adjourned until February 17, when statements will be filed.
