Top local designer Marcie De Santos has been selected to participate in the New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 to be held from February 6 to 13, 2014 at the Helen Mills Theater, New York.
According to a press release, designers such as Michael Costello, winner of Project Runway All Stars, 2012 and Leanne Marshall,
Project Runway Contestant and other international designers are scheduled to showcase their designs at the same show.
Marcie’s invitation represents a monumental step forward for the fashion industry in Guyana, as it creates the means through which Guyana can be more firmly placed on the international fashion map. Guyana and the local fashion industry can be highlighted with the possibility of creating many more fashion and business opportunities, the release said.
As a seasoned designer who has showcased at the fashion weeks of several Caribbean countries and more recently in the Dominican Republic, Marcie sees this as an opportunity to gain much needed international exposure and also as an informal training ground, where she gain technical and well as entrepreneurial skills. She expects that through the efforts of the Guyana Fashion Council, she will be able to share her skills and experience with other designers, particularly the young and upcoming.
The New York Fashion Week is one of the world’s premier fashion weeks along with those of Paris, Milan and London.
