A Guyana Defence Force Private was still in custody up to press time being questioned following the brutal slaying of her ex boyfriend’s mother.
Donna Taylor, 55, of Lot 1617 Public Road, Agricola was found dead late Friday night with her throat slit and her hands tied behind her back in her yard. Her killing is believed to be the work of her son’s jealous ex girlfriend. An autopsy will be performed today.
A visiting house guest, British national Samantha Sabat, suffered a broken arm and head injuries after jumping from the veranda as she fled the killers.
Chief of Staff of the GDF, Brigadier Mark Phillips confirmed to Stabroek News yesterday
that the detained woman was a private of the army. He said that up to yesterday afternoon he was briefed that the police were investigating the matter and that the woman was detained for questioning.
Yesterday, Taylor’s son was too distraught to speak with the media and his father Bertram Taylor said that he was depressed and traumatized and was “taking the death of his mother bad”.
“He ain’t eating nothing and just taking the thing on. We went to church today and came back and he still feeling down saying that he still can’t believe it…like he blaming heself …I think it’s because he and his mother was very very close. Everybody will tell you that,” he said
His father said that the ex girlfriend ,a young woman who he only knows as “Abby” began a relationship with the young man about a year ago and while he did not approve of the relationship he abided by it as it was his son’s choice.
However, a close relative of Taylor’s son told this newspaper that Abiola was very aggressive and demonstrated abusive tendencies from early in the relationship. Stabroek News understands that the young man had indicated to the woman that he wanted out of the relationship but was told that this would not be.
When the visiting British national stayed at the Taylors’ home a relationship had begun forming between Samantha Sabat and the young man. On learning of this, Abiola began visiting the home and would scream threats at the young man and up to Friday had threatened to kill him.
“She tell he and is always say she aint tekking leff …but she de ease off but like when she hear of the Englishwoman she start up again,” the relative stated.
Another relative had said that Abiola was identified as one of the attackers who turned up at the house late that night and started to beat them. The person said Samantha told them that she was fearful when they started to attack her and decided to jump over the veranda to safety.
Taylor’s son is the last of her three children. He too was questioned by police.
