A Kaieteur News security guard sustained a gunshot wound to his right shoulder early yesterday morning fending off two assailants.
According to a police release, Omar Bynoe, 34, of Third Street, Agricola, “was in a motor vehicle at Middle Road, La Penitence when he was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.”
An altercation ensued during which Bynoe was shot to his right shoulder.
Relatives of the man say that he was dropping off a female co-worker at the time he was confronted. His sister said that Bynoe told her that he noticed two men passing him as he stopped to let off his co-worker.
He also told relatives that when the two men passed him he felt as though he should look back, and when he did, he saw the two men approaching him carrying a revolver. At the time of the attack, Bynoe is said to have been wearing a gold chain and several gold rings, and his assailants might have been after these items.
Bynoe was reportedly ordered out of the car, and was shot to his right shoulder when he refused to comply. After he was shot though, Bynoe, a licensed firearm holder, reportedly exited the car and returned fire at his assailants who were taken by surprise by the man’s retaliation and fled.
Bynoe then drove himself to the Georgetown Public Hospital where it was discovered that the bullet which struck him had entered and exited his shoulder.
