During investigations into an armed robbery committed on Devanand Ramdial on January 31, 2014, at his residence at South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, the police arrested six men between Saturday and yesterday, a release from the police said.
They have also recovered an unlicensed 12-gauge shotgun along with three cartridges, a bulletproof vest, and some of the jewellery and a cell phone that were stolen during the robbery.
The men are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Meanwhile, there is a growing uneasiness in Linden at the increased numbers of robberies and burglaries, many unreported within the town over the last few months.
Most recently, Colin Tudor, the proprietor of Big Red, a general retail business in the One Mile area, was robbed of an undisclosed sum of cash.
Tudor had closed his business shortly after 19:00 hrs on Friday and was relieved of his money bag in the vicinity of his home at Wisroc about 45 minutes after.
A week earlier, popular businessman, James Fraser was robbed of an undisclosed sum of money that he was attempting to deposit at the ATM facility of Republic Bank at Republic Avenue, just across the road from Fraser’s business.
Fraser told Stabroek News on Thursday that he was still traumatized from the robbery.
He said that he would wake up suddenly at nights with headaches. Fraser, who has been doing business for 40 years, said it is the sixth time he is has been robbed and he is fed up.
He said he cannot recognize the robber who came up behind him and pushed an object repeatedly at his left side and said “hand over the money.” He said that he handed over the bag without putting up any resistance and the young man took same, leaving Fraser frozen in shock.
Stating that he needs closure to the robbery, Fraser said he is trying to get his video recording of the incident in the hopes of identifying the robber,
He said that he experienced closure the last time he was robbed by two persons and was able to identify them.
According to him, one died in the “gold bush,” while the other is currently a junkie walking around Linden.
