Donna Taylor, who was found dead on Friday night with her throat slit and her hands tied behind her back in her yard at Agricola, died of shock and haemorrhage from multiple injuries.
A post-mortem examination was performed by government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh, police said yesterday while stating that their investigations were ongoing.
Taylor, 55, of Lot 1617 Public Road Agricola was murdered on Friday, while visiting British national Samantha Sabat sustained a broken arm and head injuries after jumping over a veranda to escape her attackers.
A Guyana Defence Force private was arrested after she was identified by Sabat as one of the attackers. The detainee is still being questioned by the police.
Relatives of Taylor indicated that she may have been the victim of her son’s entanglement with the two women.
A close relative of Taylor claimed that the accused was very aggressive and had demonstrated abusive tendencies from early in the relationship. The person added that Taylor’s son wanted to end the relationship but his girlfriend would not let go.
The woman, the relative said, was enraged when a relationship started growing between Taylor’s son and Sabat and threatened to kill him.
Meanwhile, the detained woman’s father said that his daughter was being wrongfully accused and was a victim of a setup.
“We are very upset that she is being accused of something so serious. My daughter is a quiet girl. She is a good woman and a good mother,” he said.
He said he had not seen his daughter since Saturday and knew she was scared of the possibility of being charged with murder. “Me and my wife haven’t even sleep since they hold her. I’m feeling it a lot and I know she’s feeling sad,” he said. “I don’t think my daughter would do that. It had to be a setup because she was always there and that boy was always here so I can’t believe this is happening to us.”
A close friend of the accused also stated that she was not capable of murder. “I know that child. She can’t even fight— I know her since she was a child and she is not capable of murder. She wouldn’t do that. She is not the violent person people are saying she is,” the friend said.
“You know when bandits see foreigners they see money so I don’t believe what everyone is saying,” the friend added.
She said the accused was always pushing herself to be a better person and a mother. “She always wanted to go into the army and then she finally got in. She is a stable woman and her relationship with that boy was tight.”
