Dunston La Fleur, who was shot by a Rural Constable during what is suspected to have been the attempted robbery of an Annandale, East Coast Demerara home last month, is slowly recovery at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
La Fleur is currently in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) at the hospital and it is uncertain when he will be released, but relatives said he is very slowly recovering.
La Fleur was shot to the left side of his face with a 12-gauge shotgun.
A close relative of La Fleur, 28, of Tucville, said that his oesophagus was badly damaged from the gunshot wound he received. She said that he cannot eat any solids and cannot speak.
The woman said she felt La Fleur was taken advantage of. She said he knew the owners of the home he was found in during the wee hours of January 18. She said that while he lives with her and is normally tight-lipped about his business, he told her numerous times that he was visiting his boss in Annandale. The woman strongly believes that the “boss” he was referring to, lives at the home where he was shot.
La Fleur, who was with two other men, was said to have entered Ishwar Jeffrey’s yard around 2 am. He subsequently engaged in a shoot-out with Rural Constable Mananno Jeffrey, Ishwar’s son.
A .38 revolver with three rounds and a spent shell were recovered in the house and another .38 revolver was recovered outside. The other two men, who were posted outside the house, managed to escape.
