Coretta Spencer and Cletha Ross, who allegedly used proceeds from the sale of over $400,000 worth of footwear with which they were entrusted, were placed on $100,000 bail each on Monday after denying the charges against them.
Appearing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Spencer and Ross, were accused of converting $478,000 worth of children’s and adult’s shoes, which were the property of Vanessa Thomas, to their own use, sometime between November 11, 2013 and January 28, 2014 at Georgetown,.
Both women, who were unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge. It was also alleged that Ross, on January 28, 2014, at Georgetown, stole $6,500, which consisted of proceeds from the sale of footwear belonging to Vanessa Thomas. Ross told the Chief Magistrate that she was guilty of the theft. She said that she used the money to pay her rent and declared that she was going to tell Thomas about it. On the theft, Thomas accepted compensation.
Meanwhile, Spencer and Ross each received $100,000 bail, with no objections from prosecutor Michael Grant on their joint charge.
The case will be called again today.
