Digicel presented its annual donation to the Parkside Steel Orchestra on Monday as the group prepares for the finals of the Pan-O-Rama Steel Pan Competi-tion as part of Guyana’s 44th Republic Anniversary celebrations.
According to a press release, the Parkside Steel Orchestra was formed in 1998 as an extra-curricular activity for students. It has evolved over the years into a full steel orchestra with over 40 members including children and adults. The group won steel pan competitions in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2012. Digicel has been a proud supporter of the group since its entrance into the Guyana market under the trade name U-Mobile.
“Digicel will continue to…support the development of young people in Guyana whether it be through the arts, sports and any other form, we are proud to be associated with Parkside,” Sponsorship and Events Manager Gavin Hope said. The final of the Pan-O-Rama contest is set for February 16 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
