A grocer has been remanded to prison over an alleged attempt to defraud another man in the sale of car.
Lloyd Thomas, 40, of Soesdyke, pleaded not guilty to the allegation that he, on August 26, 2013, at Matthew’s Ridge, falsely obtained $800,000 from Anthony Dalgetty by pretending that he was in position to sell motor car PKK 1987.
Thomas’ lawyer, Leslie Sobers, was able to secure bail for his client, which was set at $100,000, but, was unsuccessful in his request for the case to be ventilated at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry told Sobers, that she was transferring the matter to Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court, in the jurisdiction where the crime was allegedly committed.
The case was adjourned until April, 1, 2014, when statements are expected to be filed.
