Heavy rain in Regions 2 to 6 and Region 9 was predicted for last night by the Hydromet office, ranging from about 45 to 60 mm.
Today, the weather forecast said that rain should continue up to midday. The heaviest rainfall is expected in Regions 2 to 6.
In recent weeks, the Hydromet Department of the Ministry of Agriculture has begun issuing warnings about impending bad weather following criticisms that its expensive Doppler Radar was not being utilized.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education yesterday said it is on high alert following reports of possible high intensity rainfall in the coming hours.
A release from the Ministry said that Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand has directed a team to closely monitor the situation and is asking parents to be cognisant of this hydromet warning and as far as they can, the reality surrounding their children’s school today prior to taking or sending said children to school.
During the recent heavy rains, the ministry had to close a number of schools because of flooding.
