A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Private was yesterday charged with the murder of her boyfriend’s mother, who was found dead with her throat slit in her backyard at Agricola last Saturday.
Abiola Jacobs was not required to plead when the charge for the capital offence was read to her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
It is alleged that Jacobs, 22, of 55 Evan Phillips Park, Agricola, on January 31, at Agricola Public Road, murdered Donna Taylor.
Taylor, 55 of 1617 Public Road Agricola, the mother of Jacobs’ boyfriend, was discovered on January 31, in her backyard bound and with her throat slit, while British national Samantha Sabat, Taylor’s houseguest, was found unconscious in the front of the yard. Sabat sustained a broken arm and head injuries after jumping over a veranda to escape the deadly attack. Jacobs was arrested after she was identified by Sabat as one of the attackers.
The murder, relatives said, stemmed from Taylor’s son’s involvement with Sabat, who was lodging at Taylor’s home, while he was in a relationship with Jacobs.
The proceedings were adjourned until February 26, when statements will be filed.
