The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)’s camp for cricketers vying for places in the regional four-day squad commenced yesterday at the GCB’s La Bonne Intention facility.
The camp is being conducted by former West Indies fast bowler Reon King, Julian Moore and Quason Nedd assisted by physical trainers Patrick King and Carl Stephenson.
Moore, speaking with this newspaper yesterday stated: “The camp is structured into two sessions. A morning session that begins at 6:30 a.m., where the players are guided through fitness sessions by the trainers and an afternoon session (2p.m.) that allows the coaches to pool their resources and work with the players on their skills.”
However, due to the weather yesterday the Georgetown Cricket Club ground at Bourda d was unavailable.
Moore opined that with the presence of King, a former West Indies speedster and Nedd, the fast bowlers in the squad is in good hands. “With the likes of former West Indies fast bowler Reon King and former national youth fast bowler Quason Nedd, there will be valuable assistance for the fast bowlers, giving Andre Percival and myself ample time to work with the remaining members of the camp.”
Territorial Development Officer of the GCB, Colin Stuart, told Stabroek Sports: “The stadium will be utilized when the camp resumes.” He added that the coaches plan to break down to the final squad and stand byes, who will then take part in match scenarios as well as spending time in the nets simultaneously.
The regional four-day tournament is set to commence on February 28.
Guyana has not won the regional four day title in over a decade. The last title the team won was in 2002 under Carl Hooper’s captaincy.
