Already serving an 18-month sentence for assaulting his wife, a security guard was yesterday given an additional six months in jail after admitting to also threatening the woman.
Wesley Tull, 45, of 36 Seaforth Street, Campbellville, had initially appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on charges of assault and threatening language. According to the police, on December 3, 2013, Tull assaulted his common-law wife Sabrina Naidu and used threatening language towards her.
According to the police’s case against Tull, the two had a misunderstanding during which Tull assaulted the woman and threatened to chop everybody in the house and kill her. The woman became afraid for her life and made a report at the Kitty Police Station. Tull was arrested and subsequently charged.
Though he had pleaded guilty to the assault charge, which got him an 18 month stay in prison, Tull had maintained a not guilty plea to the threatening language charge.
The case was transferred to Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond in Court 10, where he maintained his not guilty plea until yesterday. With his new plea, he will spend an extra six months in the Camp Street Prison.
