PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Jamaica’s captain Dave Bernard said he was pleased with the performance of his players during their six-wicket victory over Ireland in the NAGICO Super50 tournament on Monday.
Bernard said he was satisfied with the contributions from the bowlers and batsmen which allowed the Jamaicans to register their second victory in two matches and confirm their status as one of the pre- tournament favourites.
“We played well as a team,” said the Jamaican captain.
“We bowled well and restricted Ireland to 161 which I think was a very good effort, and then we did the job batting-wise. John Campbell (who top-scored with 71) played well and we got home comfortably”.
Pacer Jerome Taylor and medium pacer Andre Russell grabbed three wickets each while opener John Campbell top scored with a powerful half century against Ireland.
Jamaica are currently sitting at the top of the zone A table with Guyana on nine points after two matches.
“The two fast bowlers (Jerome Taylor and Andre Russell) did the job,” said Bernard.
“It was good to see Jerome back playing again. He was a little bit rusty in the first spell but in the second spell he came back and showed his class. All the bowlers did well.”
The two front runners, Guyana and Jamaica, will face each other in a much anticipated clash tomorrow at the Queen’s Park oval.
“Our aim is to win every game that we play so we treat Guyana with the same importance as we did with the first game”.
Both teams have already qualified for the semi-final round of the Super50 tournament.
