The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Premier League continues today with a doubleheader at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
In the featured engagement at 8.00pm, league leaders Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United will face off with 15th positioned Linden outfit Silver Shattas.
Sporting a perfect record of eight wins in as many fixtures presently, the Hammers will rely on the likes of Gregory Richardson, Dwight Peters, Dwain Jacobs and Andrew Murray to continue their unbeaten streak when action gets underway.
Locked in a relegation battle, Silver Shattas will require a monumental team effort following the mass exodus of five of their senior starters inclusive of John Waldron, Romel Tickering and André Samaru, to pull off the major upset victory when opening whistle sounds.
Coach of the Alpha unit, Wayne Dover during a pre-match comment said, “We started preparation and it is more two-fold, which is to resume the national league in our first game and looking ahead to the CFU Cup in March. Our main focus at this moment is the game today and the other games in the GFF league.”
Dover added, “We are looking to continue on that streak of winning and retaining the championship. That in itself will qualify us for the CFU championship. Our main focus is to win and qualify for next year’s CFU championship.”
The opening fixture at 6.00pm will be a battle between the lower ranked sides as 10th placed Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph United led by the duo of Delroy Dean and Quacy Price, engages 13th positioned Riddim Squad FC and their family affair of the Ramsays, the Stewarts and the Hopes.
Riddim Squad coach, Lloyd Millington in an invited comment said, “Preparation has not been good because of the weather but we still training and the players are doing a lot of personal work. Our expectation is to come out of the game with points. We got no other choice, we got to win.”
