A street dweller will be taking up residence in a prison for the next nine months after he was jailed for a burglary in which his booty included the kitchen sink.
Monty Adams, 51, was charged with breaking and entering Debbie Griffith’s Creen Street home and stealing a kitchen sink, toilet bowl and a plastic barrel, which was valued, in total, at $57,000.
When the charge was read to him in the city court of Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Adams immediately pleaded guilty to the crime. However, he followed his plea with an explanation that he had found the items “down the road” from Griffith’s home.
According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, on February 5, Griffith secured her home and went to bed. She was later awakened by a loud noise. Upon inspection, she discovered the mentioned articles missing.
Investigations followed and Adams was arrested. Grant said that the man assisted the police in recovering two of the items by showing them where he had placed them. However, the toilet bowl was not recovered.
During the court proceedings, it was also revealed that Adams had been previously brought before the courts on simple larceny charges.
After taking all the facts into consideration, Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry sentenced Adams to nine months imprisonment at the Camp Street Prison.
