It is the right of people to protest against the ills meted out to them, but let us Lindeners not forget to shout out against the badly constructed roads and drains built by local contractors. Block 22 and One Mile are two of the many areas where we continue to see mediocre construction, but we remain dumb on the issue and continue to pay large sums of money to some unscrupulous hire car drivers who overcharge for driving on those roads although they are aware of the economic situation in Linden. Burnham Drive, Winifred Gaskin Highway and the Canvas City roads and drains were built by a Trinidadian company. Many years have passed since then and those roads and drains are still in very good condition.
Let me point out those roads recently constructed by local contractors behind Wismar Hospital, Chomley Hill Road, Jordon Road or the Post Office Street, One Mile Road between Mr Steve Grant’s residence and Mr Michael Fraser’s shop, as well as many others that are all broken up.
Our local engineers and contractors seem not to be able to get things right. They continue to construct drains in areas where the outer part of the drain is lower than the high sandy area, so when it rains sand washes into the drain. Also the roads are very narrow, and they are not extended to the drains, rendering them unsatisfactory for heavy vehicles.
I’m a heavy, heavy taxpayer and I’ve been living within the Linden town community for a very long time. I’m dissatisfied with the town and the regional engineering department when it comes to the construction of roads and drains.
It’s time we Lindeners shout out, not only when we are sending birthday greetings on our 104.3 FM radio station, but to our leaders and councillors who must check projects and criticize when and if necessary.
