The post office has had no complaints from GWI about bills being lost or misplaced in the post

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) wishes to take this opportunity to respond to the recent article published in Stabroek News in its February 5 edition, captioned: ‘GWI hires private contractors to deliver bills.’

The Guyana Post Office Corporation wishes to respond to published statements attributed to Ms Thomas, the Customer Service Manager of GWI regarding, “eliminating the possibility of Guyana Water Inc’s utility bills being lost in the post.” The Guyana Post Office Corporation and Guyana Water Inc have a mutual agreement to deliver bills on behalf of Guyana Water Inc. While there may have been instances of delay in delivery, the Guyana Post Office Corporation for the most part carried out its mandate; we have had no complaints from GWI regarding bills being lost or misplaced by the post.

We further wish to point out that in many instances mail is returned for the following reasons: addressee moved from address; persons at address refuse to collect the bill; addressee is deceased and family members refuse to collect the bills in the deceased’s name; lots are unoccupied or addressee is unknown at the address. We do regret the inconvenience faced by the Guyana Water Inc, but the Guyana Post Office Corporation does not believe that the statement made was an accurate reflection of the issue.

The GPOC would like to state that notwithstanding its challenges, the corporation remains committed to ensure that the public receives an efficient and reliable service at all times.

Yours faithfully,

Tiffani Ferrell
