A report on the death of eight-year-old St Margaret’s Primary School student Joshua Hubbard, who was pushed down by a classmate last Valentine’s Day, was sent to the police, Education Minister Priya Manickchand said.
Manickchand told Stabroek News that the ministry had met with both children’s parents on November 8 and had presented a copy of its findings to Hubbard’s parents. She stated that the file was then sent to the police for the force to conduct its own investigation.
The Grade Three student died suddenly while receiving medical attention at a private hospital, hours after he was pushed down by a classmate in his school yard for not handing over a rose he had bought for his mother on Valentine’s Day.
A post-mortem performed on Joshua’s body showed that he had died as a result of a fractured spine, blunt trauma to the neck and haemorrhaging in the brain.
February 15 will be one year since his death.
Orin Hubbard, Joshua’s father, had stated that his son had indicated that he was pushed down by another pupil who became annoyed after he refused to hand over the rose.
Speaking to Stabroek News on Friday, Hubbard said that the minister had promised to contact him but she never did. He said that she had collected his number and address four months ago.
“I feel like nobody care. When you are a small man people forget you but if it was some minister child or somebody big then we would have heard something about it,” Hubbard said. “All the minister said was sorry…she never tell us what would happen,” he added.
