Guyanese born Winston Leslie Fitzgerald Phillips yesterday appeared in a Barbados court charged with having cocaine and cannabis aboard a cement boat that he was the captain of.
The 48-year-old was slapped with eight indictable drug related charges, to which he was not required to plead, according to information from the Barbados Nation.
This newspaper was told that Philips appeared at the District a Magistrate Court No 2 before Magistrate Deborah Holder.
He stands accused of being in possession of 37 pounds of cannabis that he trafficked, imported and intended to supply.
There were similar charges in relation in two kilogrammes of cocaine.
He was remanded to prison until March 10 when he will appear in another court before Magistrate Douglas Frederick.
During yesterday’s proceedings, Philips was represented by attorney-at-law Vincent Watson.
Reports are that a joint operation by members of the Customs and Excise Department, Drug Squad, Police Canine Unit, Marine Unit and the Barbados Coast Guard was conducted last Friday on the cement ship Rudisa Global. At the time it was berthed at the Bridgetown Port.
The crew comprised Guyanese and Surinamese nationals. It is unclear what has become of them.
