The file on the police’s investigation into the murder of Kwakwani miner Orin Ferreira is at the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), according to Crime Chief Seelall Persaud.
Persaud told Stabroek News yesterday that one person remains in police custody. Initially two persons – the man’s reputed wife and a neighbour – had been detained. This newspaper understands that it is the woman who remains in police custody.
Ferreira, 43, called ‘Quinn’, was found dead with a suspected stab wound to the chest along the Kwakwani Airstrip Road at about 12.40 am, police had said.
A resident had told Stabroek News that the woman and her neighbour’s son went calling at his home. He said that when his wife woke him, she related that the woman needed help to go to the hospital.
He said that when he stepped out of his house he found a shirtless Ferreira lying outside with a hole in his chest. He said the man was already dead.
According to him, he kept trying to find out how the man sustained his injury and while the woman did not speak, the young man told him that Ferreira had been stabbed.
He said he did not bother to ask about the circumstances under which the man sustained the injury but later at the hospital the young man said the woman “juk that man” and he fell to the ground. He said that based on what the young man said, he ran to Ferreira’s assistance.
Stabroek News had been told that the couple who lived together and operated a small shop in front of their home quarreled regularly. People in the Region Ten community said too that the woman had also threatened the man.
