The electricity supply to Port Kaituma has been restored but power outages are continuing approximately every hour.
Resident Richard Allen said that after work was carried at the power station over the weekend to restore electricity and residents had power from 8 pm on Sunday to 9 am yesterday but the operators at the power station were forced to cut power after they ran out of fuel.
Gladwyn Fordyce, Operator at the power company, said that fuel arrived at the power station at 1.45 pm yesterday and they resumed operations at 3 pm. But it was found that the generator cuts off approximately every hour. Efforts are underway to temporarily fix that problem until the arrival of the fuel injectors.
The fuel injectors to permanently fix the generator are expected to arrive in Port Kaituma today.
After a generator was damaged, Port Kaituma residents faced power supply problems since last August as the company was forced to operate on one generator. The area had a series of blackouts before a complete power outage over the past two weeks.
Regional Vice Chairman Fermin Singh said while he feels the power company will need another generator, he does not know if they will repair the smaller generator, which was damaged last year, or whether they will just replace it.
