Former West Indies Test batsman Ryan Ramdass said that he is hungry for the opportunity to once again represent Guyana at the highest level and is using his stint with the Trinidad and Tobago based Clarke Road United team to reinforce his chances.
In preparation for the upcoming Regional four-day tournament set to commence on February 28, Ramdass
scored an unbeaten century while fellow Guyanese all-rounder Rajiv Ivan scored a half-century for the Clarke Road United team last weekend.
Ramdass struck 119 not out and received support from Ivan who ended with an even 50 not out to take their club to 215 for 3 in 37.1 overs and defeat opponents Alescon Comets by seven wickets.
Despite Richard Kelly’s top score of 80 and an unbeaten 78 from Steven Katwaroo the Comets, who mustered 212 for 6, found that total was not enough as the Guyanese pair made quick work of the total.
Ramdass, who spoke with Stabroek Sports via social media, said that he was working hard on his cricket and is eager to represent his country.
“I’m working hard on my game and my fitness. I’ve also been batting well and I’m hoping that I get a chance to play for my country again,” said the batsman.
He also pointed out that he believes his experience will be an asset to the team especially at the top of the order given, he said, the fact that for the past few years Guyana has been “struggling to get openers.”
Meanwhile, Ivan was shortlisted by the national selectors in the squad named to prepare for the Regional Super50 competition but did not make the final cut has been churning out good scores and has also been amongst the wickets playing for the Rest XI.
He too said that he was eager to represent Guyana in the upcoming 4-day tournament.
The two Guyanese who are part of the training squad for the upcoming 4-day leg of the competition, sought permission from the local Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and the selectors to represent the Twin Island Republic club.
