A city court refused bail to a North La Penitence man yesterday after hearing that he took the police to his home to reveal an unlicensed pistol and matching ammunition.
Twenty-five-year-old Keon Kelvin, however, denied the charges that he had a 9mm pistol and five rounds of matching ammunition without a licence in his possession.
According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, on February 7, at East La Penitence, the police went to Kelvin, acting on information received by them. The officers informed him of an allegation against him about an unlicensed firearm, Grant said, adding that Kelvin then took them to his home, where he revealed and handed over the items to them. He was subsequently arrested.
But according to the man’s lawyer Paul Fung-a-Fat, his client had not been found with the items in his possession.
However, his denial did not amount to special reasons for bail and Prosecutor Grant objected to the man being released. Grant added that the prevalence of the offence was another reason for bail to be refused.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry subsequently remanded Kelvin to prison until February 25, when he will appear again for reports and fixtures.
