A man was sentenced to nine months in prison on Tuesday, after he admitted to snatching $5,000 from a passenger in a taxi at the Demico House car park last October.
Andre Nedd, also known as ‘Fried Rice,’ accepted the police’s account of what happened.
Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond told Nedd after his admission of guilt that he could receive from nine to eighteen months in jail. “You too sweet,” Nedd told Magistrate Chandan-Edmond, as he begged for lenience, while making mention that his admission was
saving the court’s time. Nedd told the magistrate that he would accept nine months and opined that he needed to be sent to prison, since he did a lot of bad things to people.
Police Prosecutor Jomo Nichols said that on October, 29, 2013, between 22:00hrs and 23:00hrs, Jacob Greaves, also known as ‘Chip Chip’, was about to join a taxi, when he was approached by Nedd, who threw a cellphone on Greaves’ lap and asked him to buy it. Nichols said after Greaves refused, Nedd forced himself partially in the car through the window, insisting that Greaves buy the phone. During the episode, the phone fell on the car floor and Greaves tried to retrieve it. When Greaves bent to do so, Nichols said, Nedd saw the five thousand dollars in the man’s pocket, snatched it and ran away. The robbery was reported to the Stabroek Police Outpost and Nedd was subsequently arrested and charged.
